ARTIST STATEMENT
Biographical Vessels
In my newfound love of working with ceramics, I make lidded
vessels. The vessels as a container, to me, symbolize myself, a body,
a person, a container of ideas, experiences, feelings, and soul.
The lid to me is a symbol of an expression, the hand of
the body, the mind, the brain, the object that is able to show or convey
the idea of the mind, to tell it to the viewer, to speak out. The lid
becomes a sculpture pedestal that expresses, symbolize a time in my experience
of living that strikes me as something I want to capture forever, it could
be the essence of a pose, sitting down, relax on a beach, or while I was
in China standing on the great wall of china. It is like a three-dimensional
snap shot to capture in time an experience that I find significant.
